I expect the characters to be emotionally linked, so they can feel what each other is feeling or pine into illness when separated/at odds with each other, etc. If there's other kinds of magic, I like them being able to draw on each other's power... which can be a bad thing if they don't actually get along. I love it when the soulbonding happens for a reason, like they're ~fated~ to do something together--doesn't have to be love, though I have a totally unironic fondness for Fated Soulbond Love. Basically, I want the unit they form together to be something more than what they are individually. At the same time, I would read the hell out of something that talks about how messed up it is to have your spirit tied to somebody else's like that.
