1) sports webcomics are rare so people take what they can get
2) it plays into the Yaoi seme/uke dynamics. the bigger guy is stotic, in the closet, might not even been "completely" gay(/is bi). the smaller guy is literally about a foot smaller, likes to bake, loves beyonce. lots of people like to act like they're beyond that but whenever they're presented with a canon that has it, they eat it up rather than being critical.

there's no real ice hockey manga :( it makes no sense! i hope that PyeongChang 2018 will get all of asia's interest up in the sport!

the japanese women's team has made really great progress. the first ever chinese born player was drafted into the nhl this year. the korean mens team is training really hard to qualify for 2018. not asians, but ice hockey has been growing leaps and bounds in australia.

ice hockey is making really big strides in asia!

Not trolling. Anon above say the hope ice hockey will be more popular in asia, I say it's impossible because it's not a sport easily playabe in asia (ring, gears etc cost so much money), even less than basketball which people can play in a field shared with football games in school.

Even then, Asia is not a monolith, other popular sports in various countries of Asia *do* cost money too by the way, the popularity of a sport doesn't correspond to the existence or rise in popularity of a manga and why am I talking about this on _coal

What? Of course there are! There's plenty -- they may not be mainstream and super-popular like certain other sports manga/anime, but they certainly do exist.

I don't think this is the manga previous anon was thinking of, but in Shout Out Loud/Sakende Yaruze, the main character's son plays ice hockey and has a crush on his coach. I don't think their relationship ever got resolved in the main plot arc -- the mangaka may have been planning a spin-off series? (if it ever got written, please tell me where I can find it, coalie! I've been wondering what happened to Nakaya for years.)

As someone who actually likes it (and also doesn't care either way for the main pairing OR watch hockey): it's cute. I like the art, and I enjoy the characters and their friendships and the general silliness. It's not tightly plotted, but the rambliness makes it feel more immersive in a way. Also, it reminds me a bit of being in college and the stupid stuff my friends and I would talk about.
