I really doubt "many" people are in that situation.

+1 I had the same exact thought.

Not many, but are there any and has that inflated the pinch hits? Some people are like 'we didn't notice!' and some people were seriously affected.

There were, what, 200-ish fics up by the time the purge happened? If even 20-30 of those never noticed that they needed to edit their assignment again for it to count as fulfilled, that is pretty significant.

But did the bug affect everyone who's already posted? I thought it just hit people at random.

Yes, the purge affected fics already posted. They remained up, and gifted to the same person, but there was no assignment box ticked, and the assignment was missing from the general assignments page like everybody else's. When it was restored, one had to edit the work and tick the box for the assignment again.

Yep, and an unknown number of people didn't realize there was even an issue. Without visiting the actual Assignments page on AO3, it would be easy to miss that anything happened until your assignment # suddenly goes down due to being defaulted by the mods.

AYRT - Yes, I know that. But from what I heard that only applied to *some* of the fics already posted, not all. (I wouldn't know from personal experience. I wasn't quite that quick with posting mine.)

It was all, because literally all of the assignments were purged. The assignments themselves were recovered, but because they had been deleted, each fic that was an assignment had to be edited by its author to fix the issue.

DA Nope. I fulfilled my assignment super early. After the purge was fixed, I didn't have to do anything to my story. My assignment - when it showed back up - was back to being 'complete!' like normal.

NA

Yeah, it only would have lost whatever had been updated since the last backup, surely.

If people posted their fic, then didn't know about the purge or didn't know they had to re-edit, they're going to be pissed when they find out they're listed as having defaulted. Especially if their writer defaulted, and they end up not getting a story.

If that happened, and I don't believe it will, they'd just get sent to emergency pinch hit. Their fic is demonstrably posted.
