Dude if it is heavy and personal that is even more inappropriate. I'd block them and save the info to send to mods only if they try to get around the block and contact you on AO3.

Heavy and personal is a game-changer here. No fucking wonder you're uncomfortable, OP. In this case, I probably would go ahead and contact the mods (along with blocking them on LJ).

Yeah I use the same username absolutely everywhere so I'm easy to find.

I was kind of hoping I'd hear at least one other "my author sent me a message too" story but it appears this is just super fucking weird haha.

Yeah, people don't often communicate like that during YT. I'm sorry it's got you feeling in a pinch. I hope you both have good support systems, this sounds like a sticky situation and you don't deserve the emotional blowback. I hope you get a great PH.

Thanks! I'm going to distract myself by trying to finish this treat and maybe when I'm done, a solution will have occurred to me. Or not. I'm kind of back and forth about ignoring it or doing a quick "no worries"... maybe I should flip a coin.

Avoid them nonny, you don't need to open their floodgates. Hope your treat goes well!

The only variation of this that seems common is if your author defaults on you and then write you a treat, they might have something in their author's note saying "Hey, sorry this is so late, hope you like!" I've seen that a lot, but that's about as far as it goes. Hell, a friend defaulted on me in the last exchange I did, and even then I never got a message from them apologizing about it (which is A-okay by me, because I'd much rather them act normal with me than weird and cringey and...whatever your author is doing, such a bad look).

I did actually have that happen to me and it sucked, which is why I'm one of the nonnies that is on the 'not your problem' side. It made it really hard to enjoy my gift because in one window I had 'please forgive me because RL and bunnies and excuses' and in the other window I had 'story which looks like mod pulled it together in ten minutes because author had extension and flaked'. YT is a bit different because people know if they're a pinch hit or not, but in that one the pinch hits weren't on a list, so if not for the author I wouldn't have known at all, except maybe from the quality of the fic.

My author actually also sent me a message this year after she defaulted. But it turned out she was a friend, so it wasn't out of the blue like that.
