Dear author, I can tell you really, really tried with my gift. It may have been only 1001 words, but you tried to incorporate everything I asked for so although it's a bit of a mess and I don't understand some parts of it, I don't see it as coal or kittyfic. I greatly appreciate it and hope you have a good Yuletide!

Your prose is a bit clunky, but you really tried, and I appreciate that. I wish there was more exploration of gender, but that's not something everyone does well, and I never expected it.

Why did you write this? It hits none of my likes and fits none of my props, and I would get it if you were pursuing a previous plotbunny but literally nothing happens in this. I can't imagine it was fun at all to create. Why does it exist?

The first 300 words of your story were so confusing I stopped reading. When I gave it another try, I just did a massive scroll right past about 1,500 words, picked up at the new point and don't feel like I missed a single thing of value.

The rest was great, though.

I regret kudosing, because now you know I've seen them and so it feels like the clock is ticking. Your fics are so good but I am so tired, and I don't know if I'll have time tomorrow to write the kind of comments I want to write, with quotes and squee and everything.

I realised an hour after I commented that what I said could be read as really insincere; it wasn't, it was just poor phrasing, but I didn't want to comment to say "I hope that didn't sound insincere, because I really did like the fic!" because that seemed kind of crazy so now I'm fretting over whether you liked it or not and, also I only just kudos'd it now because I thought I had before and I forgot, and I hope you're not reading anything negative into the time gap between those two events. I really did like the fic!

This is so pretty and I love your grasp of the characters... but I wish you'd allowed more original things to happen rather than just kind of rehashing the canon plot. The original interactions you included were so good! But there were so few of them!

I see that you did all your editing and possibly most of your writing in the week between the deadline and reveals, as the fic more than doubled in size right before the archive went live. Maybe a little more editing time could have helped with all those typos? Maybe a little more writing time could have allowed you to write the story I asked for? Maybe improve your time management skills before yuletide next year, and give your next recipient something nicer? Maybe?

My gift wasn't bad, author. It was a good story. I'm sad you clearly half-assed it because it could have been a great story that got recced everywhere.

The characterization and plot is A+ and so canon-like, but couldn't you have thrown me one shippy moment.

It's really lovely, but I do wish you'd spent more than 300 words on the climactic scene which causes the main character to rethink their entire worldview.

(It's not even a "1k and done" issue! It's nearly 2k!)

Being in tiny fandoms year-round, I've never read a coffeeshop-AU before. No one's ever written one for my fandoms, and so I never had to avoid. In fact, I was kinda jealous when people from megafandoms would complain about them – I wanted any fic! Even plotless fic! And the coffeeshop idea sounds kinda fun.

Well, now I know why everyone hates them. Boring, vaguely OOC, and the magical elements of canon translate terribly to mundane modern humans. So thanks for that life lesson.
