i feel like between this and the rape tree fic and the muppet christmas carol fic people were trying to win Yuletide and honk off tumblrculture this year by writing baby's first edgy shockfic, only to result in wank and people being disappointed or disgusted by the results.

you have to know and even love the base canon to write properly memorable crack or spitefic and it's really obvious when people are churning through the motions with bad intentions there's a reason why no one's thought of the terrible issueficcy 50sog fic from the past two years in ages but slave bear of care-a-lot is still thought of fondly.

I can't speak to other people's reasons for writing, but as someone who has both requested and written prompts that got wanked here for "edginess" (if you want to call it that), my only motivations were:
-requesting things I wanted to read because I enjoy them,
-writing things I enjoy writing,
-making my recip happy,
-and maybe making others who like that thing happy too, but really after the recip it's all gravy.

Don't care about wank or shocking/disgusting/disappointing anyone. If there were some magical filter that would show my fics only to the people who might actually enjoy them I'd be more than happy to use it.

i feel like there's a difference between the requester's motivations in wanting the fic and the way the people who wrote the fic presented it this year and that's what's bringing on that feeling for me? Your experience notwithstanding, of course.

i think the first Inside Out fic's author had pure motivations and wanted to please their writer (and clearly succeeded), but the ED writer got so caught up in being a witty bon vivant and proving they were kind of above the subject matter that their porn came out boring, and the MCC fic was written to be outrageous on purpose recip be damned to the point of it offending Morbane.

Not sure if being sarcastic but

-"Tag", -"Character", -"Fandom", -"Pairing", words>#, words<#, etc

in the SWR field will let you exclude an unlimited amount of anything from any tag. Then with AO3 savior you can set it to remember those filters (or toggle them off/on) and never see stuff you don't want to read ever again.

The first one was written to please the recip and took a year to write. The second one reads as though it were written in a day and wanted to "win Yuletide" by writing the "edgy" fic.
