Have you considered that maybe you're just on the wrong side of history? Initially bisexuals and transgendered people were excluded too and I'm sure the people who excluded them felt just as strongly about it as you do about aces.

So were bi, trans, and ace people part of the community from the start and have been ahistorically pushed out, or have they always been excluded until our glorious enlightened age? I've heard both.

I think aces/aros/etc are fine as an identity. I am not sure why they keep trying to shoehorn themselves in underneath the queer umbrella.

If you're ace and you want to have romantic relationships with people of the same gender, then sure, call yourself queer. If you're aro and want to fuck people of the same gender, then sure, call yourself queer. If you're ace/aro and also trans, cool, call yourself queer. But if you're cishet in all other ways than whether or not you want sex/want to have a relationship, maybe just stop trying to call yourself queer. It's not a special club you're being excluded from. FFS.

It did indeed happen, sorry. There were a number of disgusting, tone deaf Tumblr posts made right in the wake of the shooting. One post I remember not because it was the most offensive but because it made the incredibly illogical leap of logic that since Pulse was a gay club->asexuals are LGBT->there were asexuals at Pulse->it was also a hate crime against asexuals.

Asexuals are to the LGBT movement as MRAs are to feminism.

I'm bisexual, and I'm sick and tired of asexuals using us as a stick to beat lesbians and gay men with. Bisexual people experience same sex attraction, and with trans people there's an overlap in a lot of cases, plus trans people have always been involved in the gay rights movement. Bisexuals and trans people have done loads to support gay men and lesbians. Asexuals have done fuck all except whine and sneer and demand to be allowed into spaces which aren't for them. They see LGBT spaces as cool little clubs and forget why they exist in the first place.

I never even had a problem with asexuals until they started demanding to be included in the LGBT umbrella and the incessant homophobia reared its ugly head.
