Because I just started a treat simply because one of my fandoms has as many fics for a pairing I despise as for a pairing I love and that bothers me, so I'm writing a fic for the pairing I love.

If the person only leaves one sentence or a paragraph comments then I get it. If they're one of the ones who leave a full comment (or more) even when they get multiple gifts then AYRT is denying themselves for no reason!

Sentence sure, but a paragraph may well be a very good and reasonably long comment.

like the anon you replied to said, close to a full comment aka 4300 characters or multiple comments.

and before you ask, one sentence is minuscule, one paragraph is small, multiple paragraphs is medium. the single full comment is long and multiple comments are very long.

they said that one paragraph was a "reasonably long comment". i disagree with that and restated what length a comment needs to be in order for it to be "long" in my book.

comments are comments and there isn't an adjustment (e.g. 3k is long for trick or treat fic since the expected minimum is only 300 words) used in order to categorize them via length. if one paragraph is "reasonably long" then what are two paragraphs, three, a full comment, etc?

To me, "reasonably long" reads as as qualified as "quite long" or "rather long" would be, so somewhat short of long. But people break up paragraphs in different watys. What is one person's paragraph may be another person's six.

given that an average paragraph equals 5 or 6 sentences on average, breaking that up into two or three paragraphs still would be small for me. you can pad them by pasting in lines of the story that you love but it still hits medium as maximum imo.

it was considering the 'given that some people don't use line breaks or write really long sentences' that i said 4.3k characters would be "long". if you're only writing two paragraphs but you've hit 3k characters then that would be a medium/long comment.

this comment is 162 words/906 characters and 4 paragraphs long but it's still small despite me padding it with your own words. i dont think there's anything wrong with short comments, but it's only when compared to a single sentence that this could ever be seen as "reasonably long". 4.3k word and multiple length comments exist. those are long.

I'm not denying myself anything. I'm just petty because I never get treats, so I don't think others should get multiple.

If you're bitter that other people get treats when you don't and you don't write treats to see people's super happy reactions, why bother writing treats at all?

What are you getting out of it when neither side of the equation seems to soothe your soul? A place on the multiple treaters list which will hopefully land you a treat sometime in the future thanks to goodwill associated with your name?

I did that today too. I chose another letter to treat, one where the person didn't have any gift fics yet. I like to spread the treat love. Is that still petty?

Not to me! I do the same. I have a bunch of treat possibilities open in tabs and one of the recips already has four gifts, so I moved on. If it has been something that really inspired me, I would've still written it, but, as is, I'm focusing on other stories.

Yeah, this. I know a lot of canons I could potentially treat in. All other things being equal, I'd rather treat the person going to PHs with zero gifts than someone who's already got two.

I defaulted this year and wanted to write some treats to make up for it, but apparently I also defaulted on and now I don't want to write anything. I got a really, really great treat last year so I'm sure it's just yuletide karma but my motivation pretty much died this morning.
