I just was scrolling through my phone, looking at pinch hits, when I noticed she was still unclaimed. And then I LOLed when a second email that they're still looking for a writer for her came through.

I hope she gets a lump of absolute coal. She's thoroughly obnoxious everywhere she goes, but I will never forgive her and her sister for being so sanctimonious toward the recip of the gay-bashing dragon fic.

Beta fatigue

Anyone else feeling wiped out from betaing? I normally go through fic pretty fast, but this year it's felt like I've had to rewire almost every sentence I've had to look at for people because of grammatical reasons and I'm... exhausted.

Yeah, but mostly because I've been sick.

It took me all day to edit a 2.5k fic yesterday. It was not a disaster of spelling and grammar. It was merely a fic in which the author wasn't used to writing in present tense and kept slipping into past with some past perfect.

I have a story which is casefic, and the case involves kids being kidnapped for sex trafficking (which is totally in canon, btw). The story doesn't have a specific kid or any details, it's just that it's a possibility being run down while wrapping up paperwork and finishing up to hand over for prosecution. I feel like the Implied/Referenced Child Abuse tag is too strong, but I feel like I should put it in somehow. What should I put it as? Or do I add like a casefic tag to make it obvious that it's just in the case?

Coal, help, what's going on? Barely-above-minimum, untagged gift was there yesterday and it's gone today (-1 to the fandom's total, too). Haven't seen myself on the pinch hit list. Should I contact the mods?

I'd check in with them, just in case.

It could be something mostly harmless (writer uploaded a draft, deleted it, is in the process of uploading different fic), or the mods could be aware of it (gift turned out to be incomplete upon review) and plan to send you out with the next batch of PHs. But it could also be something like your writer randomly deciding to delete their AO3 account and their gift along with it, and the mods might not notice anymore if you had a gift at deadline.

Try opening all the works, searching for the characters you requested, and checking out what fandoms the results are in with the fandom drop-down thing. Sometimes that's the fastest way to shake out a weird tag synning thing leading to a fandom name you're not expecting.

(Or if one work shows up and there's no fandom in the drop-down, it suggests the work is in a fandom that hasn't been made canonical yet.)

Are they for the same recip? If so, perfectly okay, you can even put them in a series together. If they're for other people, try to make them as distinct as possible.

Oh well, not much I can do about it except hope they like both fics. My main solace is that mine is at least three times longer than the treat writer. I'm also writing them a treat in another fandom, because we match on two fandoms and because I'm a giant fucking nerd.

Beta woes

To add to my anxiety over being on the PH list I'm also having beta trouble. I got a beta from chat and then they bailed on me by saying my rough draft had to many errors and it was too much work for them so they couldn't beta after all. I had asked for a beta by saying it needed a lot of work in certain areas, this person agreed to help with those things but then said it was too much. So basically my fic had been deemed to shitty to fix.

Now my second beta said they would get it done yesterday and that didn't happen and I'm to anxious to email them.
