Now that the NYR collection has closed, I'd be interested to know how many of you coalies wrote NYR stories this year? What kind of feedback you received?

(Do you think the posts Morbane posted in the community to feature the stories helped you to get more audience than the stories in that fandom would usually get?)

Anon questions on my letter

Someone sent me an anonymous question about an important detail in my letter and I really hope they see the secondary post I made to respond, because they asked a researcher to provide MORE RESEARCH.

\o/ I hope they don't mind that it took me nearly eight hours to answer, because I wanted to be thorough.

So they didn't read the rest of the books because a character is a whiny manchild, and yet they requested him? I think? It's hard to tell, but I think so?

I mean, it also took me until the second paragraph to realize they requestd Ronan and Gansey for TRC, so good letter writing there.

I Yuletide every year, but this one was crazy and I was so busy I forgot the signup deadline. I still want to find ways to take part. Any advice on writing non-pinch hit treats (I need more time to write)? Advice on the best way to do fandom_stocking or something like that?

If you sign up to the pinch hit list and grab one of the early ones you like, you'll still have plenty of time to write!

And I don't really have much advice beyond "go to the letters spreadsheet, find letters you like in fandoms you like, and write the treats."

After posting their locked letter THREE times, and having Morbane tell them no each time, another spreadsheeter stepped in and added glitterpig's letter despite it being a partial placeholder. Why?!

Because the spreadsheeter only noticed that it was unlocked and that it didn't look like a placeholder, because she didn't scroll down to the bottom of a several-screens-long letter to see that that the last fandom has a placeholder. Sorry.

Do you reply to comments on your exchange fics?

I've just noticed that some of my past treat writers didn't.. and then responded to comments on their next posted fics. I swear, I leave sincere and decent sized comments, so it's not like they got a 'thanks for writing this, bye'. It doesn't bother me that much but I usually respond at least to my recip.

My letter's been done and properly reported to the letters post for almost three days, and it's still not in the spreadsheet. >:(

It wouldn't bother me so much, but plenty of people who've posted their letters after me are! Grumble grumble, spreadsheet me, I want people to find me and write me treats.

but I totally zoned on the idea that people might search by specific tropes or kinks and I just said I want to read all the things. Which is true, but now I'm lost to the search function. How do I list everything?

Edit into your comment all the things people have made threads looking for that you want? (I for one am probably going to run through with ctrl+f for breathplay again later on in the exchange, for instance.)

The post went up yesterday, and Trialia made a classic reply:

"Oh dear, you've just reminded me that my letter refused to be edited last time I went to edit and unlock it! I'd best sort that out today. Lots of women in my requests this year. :) I think there's only one of the six that isn't femmeslash or female character gen."

How hard can it be to unlock a post? Also, wow, so many women! Amazing! Let's all clap and admire her!

Maybe it's just me, but sometimes I click on a letter by someone whose writing I'm familiar with, and find myself totally confused because the voice of the letter seems so different from what I imagined when I read that person's fic.

Of course, of course, that probably shouldn't be so surprising, since artist /= art, but still, it's a weird disconnect sometimes.

I've been unmatchable on requests before, but that just meant I went out immediately on the pinch hit list. Never been unmatchable on offers, whether I leave the matching up to chance or game the system.
